St. John's and the Avalon Peninsula
St. John's and the Avalon Peninsula
Ghillie [gill-ee] is the Gaelic word for someone who guides or assists a hunter or angler.
We have years of experience guiding clients for trout and salmon around St. John's and the Avalon Peninsula. Our fly fishing guides emphasize the history and diversity of the Avalon outdoors, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable time for anglers of all abilities.
East Coast Ghillies is a collective of fly fishing guides who live in and around St. John's, so when you book with us, you get access to a select group of guides. Just let us know if you're interested in fly fishing for trout, sea-trout, or salmon. We also offer fishing and foraging, simple foraging, and eco-angling excursions. We can also give lessons in casting (fundamentals, single-hand spey, two-handed, etc.) and angling technique.
We specialize in accommodating travelers' needs and schedules, and we are available to answer any questions you may have about the best way to enjoy and access the Newfoundland rivers.
Simply, guys who love to fish and run amok in the outdoors. Our fly fishing guides work hard to build and maintain respect for Newfoundland trout and salmon by highlighting the unique ecosystems around St. John's in which the fish thrive. To this end, we don't think of ourselves solely as a typical fly fishing guide service, and we're happy to combine angling with foraging, camping, canoeing, and hiking. We've been doing this stuff for a while now, and we want to share with you the same experience of the Newfoundland outdoors that we cherish.

Thanks to everyone who made 2024 the busiest year yet for the Ghillies. We'll be back in 2025 and ready to organize day-trips for Atlantic salmon, sea-trout, or trout. We are also planning more foraging excursions and camping and fishing over-nighters.
